East Meets West Expo, Mount Pearl

Hi,

I was cleaned out of a lot of my stock between the Clarenville Day's Celebrations and the weekend in Placenti. I am not complaining! I have to get really busy this week to fill orders and to produce new stock for next weekend.

The drilled beach glass pendants and earrings were a big hit! I need to order more sterling silver bails to make sure that I have enough. This is a busy time. Again, I am not complaining!! There is so much to be done.

Contact me if you have any questions.

New Drilled Beach Glass!!!

Hi,

I am so pleased that all of the work and effort have paid off - the drilled beach glass pieces are gorgeous!!!! I have sorted through the glass pieces and picked out some that would look nice and I am so enthusiastic about the results! I remember the day that I picked the cobalt blue piece off the beach. It was so beautiful. I wonder what kind of bottle it came from. It is too thin for Noxema. Maybe a Milk of Magnesia bottle?? The picture does not do it justice - believe me.

The gray piece is such a marvellous shape. It is thicker as well. I wonder where it came from? Maybe glass from a ship???

The 'lightening bolt" clear piece is so ... dare I say (at my age :) ) .... funky!!!!!!

I am so excited about experimenting with making more earrings from the drilled pieces. It is very difficult to find two pieces that match each other - you don't want them to match perfectly, I know - some people, like Pete, never wear earrings that match! She is so cool!

These are the first drilled beach glass earrings that I have done.

I just sent in samples of my beach glass jewellery to the Craft Council for the jury process! I am so nervous but excited. Wish me luck!!!

Take care,
Andrea

Harmony Balls and the Farmer's Market

Hi,

I have been really busy getting ready for the Farmer's Market this Saturday in St. John's. I only got to attend once last year, so I am excited about trying it out again this year. They only allow 2 jewellery tables each Saturday, so all of the jewellery designers were put on a rotation. That is only fair. The Farmer's Market is so interesting. There are so many different products - from produce to foods to different craft items. Everything is hand-made which makes it so great!!!

I am hoping to be able to spread the word about my "Gems From the Sea" - the beach glass jewellery. I have finally had success with drilling holes in the beach glass!!!!! It has taken a lot of trial and error - mostly error (in broken pieces :( ) - but I guess that is the best way to learn. The pieces are fantastic. Pictures do not do them justice.

Check out the site and the Farmer's Market.

Have a great day! Congratulations to the teachers and students who are finishing off another school year!!!! I miss my students!

Website almost ready to upload!

Hi,

It is an exciting day - my website is in its final stages of being tweaked so that it can be launched. Peter Sansome is the designer of my website. He is doing a fantastic job!

Things have been moving ahead at an incredible speed! I have gotten more beach glass! I received a shipment of sea glass from The Grand Bank Heritage Society. I tumbled quite a bit of it - some really fantastic pieces - so beautiful!!! I will post some pictures soon.

Check out the website for the new addition (to my stock) of the Harmony Balls. They are exquisite. The information on the site is included with a card that accompanies each Harmony Ball.

Please check out the site and let me know what you think!

Thank you to my jewelry friends

Hi,

I would just like to say thank you to all of the wonderful people whom I have met since I started my jewelry business full time. It has been a scary time for me - taking the plunge! I have been overwhelmed by the support and encouragement that I have received from those in the industry and others in support networks. Pete Barrett in the Department of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development has been an inspiration and source of great advice. Tanya Jarvis Reid and Leanne Avery from NLOWE (Newfoundland and Labrador Organization of Women Entrepreneurs) have both been incredibly supportive. Thank you to all of the people who have attended the various workshops for patience and advice. I have made such wonderful friends.

Focus Group in St, John's

Just getting ready to attend a focus group at the Devon House in St. John's. It is sponsored by the Craft Council. I am really looking forward to it today. It should be very interesting. It is dealing with issues to do with jewellers in Newfoundland. I am still working on pricing my jewelry and on getting my Cancer Awareness jewelry ready for market.

Must get going.

Business plans

Hi,

I just finished an online application to receive funding for a student employee under the Canada Summer Job. It is nerve wrecking to try to make sure that I do everything correctly. It is exciting at the same time. I hope that the application is successful.

I just received a further update about a Precious Metal Clay (PMC) workshop that is taking place from March 6 - 9. I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT IT!!!! I can't wait. It should be a great learning experience. I am hoping to be able to incorporate techniques that I learn from this workshop to my other jewelry projects, especially my beach glass jewelry.

Things seem to be moving ahead.

Take care,
Andrea

Marketing Your Business on the Internet

Hi,

Welcome to Karlande Designs. I am currently in the process of setting up my business in Handcrafted Jewelry. I design and create jewelry using different media such as: beach/sea glass; gemstones; pounded metal. I am also developing a line of Cancer-Awareness jewelry - part of the proceeds from the sale of the jewelry is donated for Cancer Research.

I am so excited about moving ahead.

As a matter of fact, I am currently in the middle of a "Marketing Your Business on the Internet" to learn how to market my business.
